August…. The “dog days” of summer are here… but it’s just the usual heat and humidity we are used to. It’s hot ---- the White Sox are “red hot” and we have very high hopes as the Bears report to training camp.  The Cubs….. well, they are still active and in no danger of breaking the curse this year.

Yep, it’s been a little warm and we generally like a “lighter fare” during these summer months and one of the last things we want to do is turn on the oven at home. What does this mean to all of us - fresh fruit, prepared meals, side salads, dinner salads, home meal replacement, breakfast selections, box lunches, and some fast food too. All those choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner require primary and carryout packaging. Home meal replacement is still a very real market.

Our featured vendors this month are a “who’s who” in the disposable/carryout business. We carry the lines that help you create profitable repeat sales year in and year out. Whether its breakfast, lunch, dinner or a bagel….don‘t put great food in “not-so-great” packaging. It’s not the place to skimp. If you have to add a few cents to the cost of the meal isn’t’ it worth it so your customers arrive home with the food IN the container, not leaking all over their car. Keep hot foods hot, and cold foods cold and inside their containers.

As the lines between retail and traditional foodservice continue to blur and we see more and more crossover marketing from retail stores, deli departments, stand alone delicatessens and specialty food shops. The one thing these businesses have in common is the need for quality packaging. It can be as simple as an insulated foil wrap – or as elaborate as a private print paper container with a multi-colored logo and a matching bag.
